West Wilts celebrate three wins from five on mixed weekend
West Wilts Hockey Club enjoyed a productive weekend overall on 26 September, recording three victories from five matches, highlighted by a superb goal-laden display from the Men’s 1s and important wins for the Ladies’ 1s and Men’s 3s.
The standout performance came at home, where the Men’s 1s dismantled Chippenham 2s 11-1 in a dominant attacking display. Kieran led the scoring with a hat-trick, while Dan and Mark both struck twice. Warren, Jonny, David and Ben also got on the scoresheet as West Wilts overwhelmed their visitors from the outset. David was named Player of the Match after an outstanding all-round performance.
The Ladies’ 1s also enjoyed home success, securing a hard-earned 1-0 victory over TBB 5s. Katie P scored the only goal of the game, while Player of the Match Katie B played a pivotal role in a disciplined and determined team effort.

There was further success for the Men’s 3s, who defeated Wootton Bassett 3-1 in an entertaining encounter between two developing sides. Jake scored twice and Chris added the third goal before also collecting the Player of the Match award. The match also featured a welcome return to goal for Brian and marked Ian’s first appearance for West Wilts after a 15-year absence from the sport.
The Men’s 2s were unable to maintain the winning run, suffering a 3-1 defeat away to Cirencester 3s. Ed netted West Wilts’ consolation goal, while Adam’s performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
The Ladies’ 2s fell to a 7-0 defeat away at Chippenham 4s, although the scoreline did not fully reflect their efforts. Goalkeeper Gill produced a series of outstanding saves, while Player of the Match Robyn impressed with her energy, support play and driving runs forward. The side continued to show composure on the ball, using channeling well and maintained their trademark encouragement throughout.
Despite contrasting fortunes across the club, West Wilts finished the weekend with three wins and two defeats, alongside several strong individual performances and plenty of positives to build on in the weeks ahead.
