Masters Show They’ve Still Got It at Westbury

On 27th June, our Men’s Over 40s Masters side travelled to Westbury on Trym for a competitive tournament and came away with a well-deserved third-place finish.

With plenty of old boys reunited, a few creaking joints and some increasingly tired legs as the day wore on, the team proved that class really is permanent. Against some strong opposition, they played some excellent hockey throughout the tournament, showing that the old magic is still very much alive.

There were cracking goals from Martin Allsop and Phil Jeffrey, while Charlie somehow managed to find an extra gear, covering what felt like every inch of the pitch. At the back, Sha, KB and Matt were outstanding, producing a series of superb defensive displays that kept the opposition frustrated and our goalkeeper pleasantly underworked.

Despite the occasional need for a longer recovery between games (and perhaps a few extra ibuprofen afterwards!), the team spirit was first class all day, with plenty of laughs, encouragement and great hockey on display.

A huge thank you goes to Clive Nash for pulling the squad together and organising another fantastic Masters outing.

Third place, some brilliant hockey and everyone making it home in one piece—I’d call that a successful day at the office!
