WWHC Juniors shine in Wiltshire Tournament
West Wilts Hockey Club’s junior U10 and U12 squads have enjoyed a brilliant few weeks on the road, taking part in two lively tournaments hosted at Dauntsey’s School and featuring teams from every corner of Wiltshire. What stood out wasn’t just the hockey on display, but the spirit, resilience, and sheer enthusiasm shown by every child who pulled on a West Wilts shirt. Both tournaments served up a mix of weather conditions sun, wind, rain, and everything in between which could easily have dampened the mood. Instead, the juniors embraced it. They adapted, stayed focused, and kept smiling, even when the pitches became slippery and the wind made passing tricky. That determination alone says a lot about their character. The events brought together some exceptionally strong teams, many with players who train and compete at a very high level. For our juniors, stepping onto the pitch against such polished opposition was a challenge and they rose to it. They showed courage, teamwork, and a willingness to learn from every match. Simply entering these tournaments was an achievement; competing with confidence and commitment was something even more impressive. Across both weekends, the children demonstrated:
• Great teamwork, supporting each other on and off the pitch
• Improving skills, from tackling and passing to positioning and communication
• Positive attitudes, regardless of scorelines or weather
• Resilience, bouncing back from tough moments and celebrating the small wins
Every player contributed something special, and every player should feel proud. None of this would be possible without the dedication of the coaching team. Their preparation, encouragement, and calm guidance helped the juniors navigate challenging matches and unfamiliar conditions. From early starts to post-match debriefs, the coaches gave their time and energy to ensure the children had a rewarding experience. Their commitment to developing young players both in skill and confidence shone through at every moment. These tournaments were more than just fixtures on a calendar. They were opportunities for growth, connection, and pride in wearing the West Wilts colours. The juniors represented the club brilliantly, and the experience will no doubt fuel their enthusiasm for the rest of the season.
