Match Report

A severely depleted 2nd XI squad travelled to South Glos for their second game of the season.
The bare 11 Wilts squad approached the game with the aim of working hard for one another and doing their best to get a result against the odds. The game started well with Wilts managing to hold off the opponents' attacks and keeping them at bay. Some heroic defending by the whole team, especially Ash Kayser (Man of the Match) in midfield, managed to thwart most attacks. Ultimately though the lack of subs showed and towards the end of the first half South Glos were able to net a couple of goals from short corners.
A really positive team talk at half time helped reinvigorate the visitors and Wilts started with renewed energy. Trying to strike a fine balance between attack and defense without exhausting themselves was a tough challenge but Wilts managed it to start with. Some slick play from Matt Naylor, Brandon Parker and Rob Heyes created a few short corners, one of which was finished by James Baker to get Wilts off the mark. This goal spurred Wilts on to push for the equaliser. Unfortunately this opened up gaps that South Glos were able to attack. The oppo were able to win and convert more short corners despite heroic defending from all, especially Will Hall with his goal-line saves.
The final score was 4-1 to South Glos. Wilts weren't happy to loose, but were happy with the way they played the game and came away with heads held high after fighting the odds for 70 minutes. Next week Wilts face Bristol Uni at home, hopefully with a full squad and some substitutes!
