Match Report

Wilts hosted Wooton Under Edge for their final friendly fixture of the pre-season.

Wilts started well with considered play and passing through the team. The likes of Pete Macey-Welsh enjoining his home debut in midfield, helping to run the show. Before long the lovely play from Wilts lead to Joe Veacock netting to open the scoring (his first of 4 today!). Following this lead Wilts continued to apply pressure and not allow the visitors any chance to recuperate. Before long James Baker and Macey-Welsh netted 1 each taking the score to 3-0. Wooton replied through a breakaway goal that was against the run of play, but well taken.

In the second half the game continued in much the same vein; Wilts really able to control the flow of the game through good spells of possession. It has to be said, though, the stand out player of the game was Brandon Parker. It was also his home debut in the 2nd XI and he won Man of the Match with an outstanding performance, leaving defenders in his wake and creating chance after chance. Veacock and Baker took full advantage of this netting more and more to stretch the lead. Some sublime passing from Chris Warrenath the back also created a hat-full of chances.

The final score ended 7-2 to Wilts with Veacock taking 4, Baker 2 and Macey-Welsh 1.

The signs are good and Wilts look forward to their league opener next week at home.
