Match Report | On a blistering hot day, West Wilts Womens first XI hosted Salisbury 2 in a pre-season friendly at Kingdown School. The team welcomed new players Rebekah and Gabby and returning players Nic and Ellie together with a handful of last seasons players from the 1's and 2's squads. Salisbury were quick to dominate the first few minutes of the game, and goal keeper Jordan had to make some early saves. However Wilts began to settle, and keep possession better to enable some attacking drives forward. As it was a friendly the teams agreed to play four quarters, which proved beneficial in the heat, and gave the teams a short interval to hydrate and discuss game-play. The next two quarters saw possession equally between the two sides, although in the third quarter Salisbury were awarded several penalty corners is quick succession. Charlotte, Amanda, Ellie and Nic, with GK Jordan defended well and managed not to conceed. Wilts themselves had a couple of penalty corners too, but couldn't quite manage to convert, despite several shots from Rebekah, Laura, Gabby and Nikky. With great speed, Hope gained ground to create opportunities in the attacking 23, as did Charlotte, receiving the ball from George on the right. A thoroughly enjoyable and positive start to the new season.
