Match Report

Wilts hosted Marlborough A today, the team that was promoted the previous season alongside them. Wilts knew it was going to be a tough game.

The home team started well, applying pressure in all the right areas. Some slick midfield play from Dave King lead to him opening the scoring with a well taken strike. Moving on from here Wilts defended well with JP McCormack and (man of the match) Sam Randall controlling the opposition attacks with confidence. The first half really saw Wilts applying pressure, trying to break down the Marlborough press to create chances. A handful of these were converted to bring the score to 4-1 at half time; Marlborough scoring on the break.

The second half went pretty much the same as the first, with Wilts controlling the game and breaking down the opposition press to create chances. Marlborough always posed a threat on the break and they were able to get another goal this way. Wilts weren’t overly concerned however, controlling 95% of the game was good enough for them. The game ended 7-2 to the home side and showed what Wilts can do when they get things right.

Scorers: James Baker x2, Joe Veacock x2, Dave King x1, Stu Brailey x1, Hugh Newmarch x1.
