Match Report

Wilts hosted Bristol Uni for their second home game of the season, and the first with full squad availability. It was to be an odd game, with Uni playing without a keeper but 11 men 'outfield' and 13 goals between the teams.

It started a little bit frantic for Wilts. Uni loaded the midfield with their 'extra' man and made it difficult for the Wilts to get out of their half. Ten minutes in though, and still 0-0 despite all the pressure, Wilts adjusted and found their feet. It can be rather tricky playing against 11 outfield players but Wilts finally settled into it. Some tactical adjustments made the difference here. Excellent work from Phil Jeffries (Man of the Match) helped stop any Uni attack and also started many for the home side. A handful of these were neatly converted by the Wilts attacking players whom were able to get through the Uni defense and find the open goal mouth. The half finished 5-0 to Wilts.

A positive half time team talk, and some minor tactical points, re-invigorated the home side and spurred them on. The likes of David King and Brandon Parker really shining in the Wilts midfield. Despite their extra numbers of outfield players, Uni were quite unable to breach the Wilts defence. More attacking hold up play and neat finishing from James Baker opened the lead even more. Wilts ending up on 10 goals. The pressure from Uni and their 4 subs ulitmately lead to mistakes, cards and goals. Uni were able to break through the superb keeing of Clive Nash and find the net 3 times.

All in all a great game, albeit rather odd. Wilts finally showed what they're able to do with a full squad and no injuries. Next week they have to build on this win and get another 3 points on the road.

Goals - James Baker 5, Joe Veacock 2, Pete Macey-Welsh, Ben Lemon, Phil Jeffries 1 each.
