Match Report | West Wilts hosted their first league game of the season versus Keynsham. Wilts took a slightly new look squad due to availability and injuries. Despite this Wilts looked pretty good to start the game. Some attempts to play the ball around and some decent looking attacks helped Wilts settle. However, the opposition had their moments too. Keynsham were also trying to play a good standard of hockey through the first half. It was pretty close but Keynsham just edged ahead before half time, scoring with a counter-attack. By half time Wilts had suffered injuries in key positions and lost all of their substitutes. Regardless, the remaining players banded together, playing out of position and without respite. A valiant effort lead to David King (Man of the Match) slotting the ball home past the keeper after a perfectly timed run into the ‘D’. Unfortunately the Wilts squad were unable to hold Keynsham at bay for the remainder of the match. The visitors managed to win and convert a short corner, taking the score to 2-1. Despite a great effort all round Wilts were just unable to break the opposition down to equalise. The game ended 2-1 to the opposition, which was disappointing for Wilts. The home side have to understand the factors that had an impact on the game and to stay positive for their next fixture. |
