Match Report

Wilts 2nd XI visited Salisbury to play their final friendly before their first league game next week. Injuries and availability meant a few players doubling up, some call ups from the 3s and no subs. Needless to say it was going to be a tough game!

Nevertheless Wilts started strong and took the lead via a tap in at the back post by Hugh Newmarch. Some great play by Jacob Milburn resulted in Wilts holding possession well and creating chances but they were unable to convert. Towards the end of the half Wilts struggled with tired legs and Salisbury managed to get a goal back to level the score.

The second half went much the same way. Wilts started strong all over the pitch. Notable performances from Chris Warren at centre back and Cameron Jessop in midfield enabled Wilts to play some slick hockey. A stalemate ensued through the half right up until Salisbury managed to intercept a pass and score with the final touch of the game.

Final score 2-1 to Salisbury, MOM Jacob Milburn.

Although Wilts lost the match they learned a lot and showed great heart and tactical knowledge through the game. 2-1 against a strong Salisbury team whilst struggling with tired legs is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, it’s an achiement of sorts.
