Match Report | West Wilts travelled the short distance to local rivals Chippenham this week. After a couple of weeks of due to snow it was a chance to get back to winning ways. Wilts started with a different looking side to normal, adapting their formation to suit player availability. This new formation was great going forward, with Wilts scoring early through Dave King (man of the match) and James Baker, but exposed the defence against breakaways. Chippenham capitalised on this as the teams entered the half way point with the score line Chipp 3-2 Wilts. A quick tactical change at half time helped Wilts plug those holes, but reduced their momentum going forward. It’s a game of fine lines at times, and the Wilts management were hoping this would be the difference. Unfortunately, not… Wilts were unable to really hit their stride, feeling stuck in low gears through most of the second half. This wasn’t helped by injuries leaving Wilts with no subs. Chippenham capitalised on this and scored 3 in the second half; their forward line being clinical and jumping on every opportunity to score. In reply, Wilt scored another 2 through Baker and Rob Heyes but that’s all they could manage. Chippenham outplayed Wilts today and fully deserved their 3 points. Wilts are disappointed to lose their spot at the top of the table but have renewed fight to get back there next week with 2 games meaning 6 points up for grabs. |
