Match Report

West Wilts travelled to Cirencester for their first game after the Christmas break. Although winning the first meeting, Wilts were aware Cirencester posed a threat.

Wilts started slowly and looked to be the team struggling after the break. Cirencester pounced on this and managed to win and convert 2 short corners in the first half. After a little tactical change Wilts started to get into the game, mainly thanks to 'man of the match' Joe Veacock and his effective midfield play. Working closely with Stu Brailey and Chris Warren, the trio were able to assert some dominance and start to control the flow of the game a bit more. Wilts started to create meaningful chances but were able to capitalise on a lot of them due to poor first touches or decision making. Fortunately though, Wilts were able to convert one of the opportunities when Toby Dorgan stepped up to smash the ball home before half time.

A little more tactical change at half time and Wilts started the second half on top. They were starting to play as they were before the Christmas break. In this period Rob Heyes lead from the front and chased the Cirencester down hard, forcing mistakes. Thanks to this, James Baker was able to net a reverse shot into the top of the net to tie the game. Shortly after this the Wilts midfield were able to win a short corner that Baker converted for his brace and for Wilts to take the lead. The game ebbed and flowed for most of the second half with teams sharing possession and chances. Both teams lacked the clinical finish, another effect of the 'break'. Two minutes to go and a controversial short corner was converted by Cirencester to draw the game 3-3, and that's how it ended.

Wilts take a point from the match, although disappointed not to get 3, and look forward to next week. A good training session to blow the cobwebs away some more and they hope to get back to winning ways against UWE at home.
