Match Report

West Wilts travelled to Devizes to build on the strong performance from the previous week.

With a strong side but still carrying a couple of injury’s Wilts started the game well, pressing Devizes into several mistakes. Through the mistakes Wilts managed to take the lead when Captain James Baker managed to intercept a pass from the Devizes defence rounded the keeper and finished neatly into an empty goal.

Some sloppy passing in the Wilts midfield meant Devizes managed to get themselves back level, catching Wilts on the break.

With the scores now level Wilts started to take more control of the game. The slick passing returned, which lead to a couple of well worked goals through Hugh Newmarch and Cameron Jessup.
Wilts started the second half as they ended the first, on the front foot pressing the Devizes defence into making mistakes. This led to a well-controlled passage of play where another goal came through Captain Baker.

Now leading the game 4-1 Wilts were in full control of the game, passing the ball well and moving the ball around the back through the defence. JP McCormack made some great runs on and off the ball which earned him the man of the match award.

Wilts were caught on the break and a bit of ball watching led to conceding a somewhat unfortunate short corner which Clive Nash, in the Wilts goal, was only able to get half a foot to and ended up in the Wilts goal.
As in the first half, Wilts found their composure and again controlled the game. Ben lemon managed to, just about, force the ball over the line for another Wilts goal.

Final score 5-2. Wilts are also beginning to get into their stride now. Looking forward there seems to be a period of good player availability that should help ensure consistency in the team selection. Wilts will be looking to build on the positives from this game when they face Bath Buccs at home, ‘Fortress Kingdown’ next week.
