West Wilts HC host charity 7-a-side tournament

A five year old boy from Seend is heading off to the renowned Peto Institute in Budapest, Hungary, for much needed treatment, thanks to the generosity of hockey teams from across Wiltshire and Bath.  Local hockey teams from Chippenham, Warminster, Swindon, Bath, Melksham and Wootton Basset took part in a Sevens tournament hosted by West Wilts hockey club to raise over £1000 for George Baker who suffers from severe spastic cerebral palsy. George is the nephew of two popular members of the Mens 1st XI at Warminster-based West Wilts. As hockey players, running around a pitch every Saturday is taken for granted but for George even the most basic skills of sitting and standing are impossible without aid. The tournament saw 11 regular hockey teams, as well as one team of rugby boys, take to the pitch for a day of competitive yet friendly seven-a-side hockey. There was also a BBQ and refreshment stand that did a roaring trade throughout the day and a raffle was also held with many prizes being donated by local companies.  The day was a great success with over £1167 raised for George and congratulations to Swindon for their victory in the final.

George has now been invited to attend the Peto Institute in Budapest from 16th November to 13th December 2007. Physiotherapists will work with him for 8 hours a day, 6 days a week to attempt to help him learn to sit, stand, eat and other basic skills we all take for granted.
